Items for an Emergency Supply Kit

In the event of a disaster, it is recommended that you be prepared to make it on your own for at least 3 days.

Start now by gathering basic emergency supplies -

  • flashlights
  • batteries
  • battery operated radio
  • cell phone
  • first aid kit
  • fire extinguisher
  • a whistle or loud bell (to attract attention)
  • toilet articles
  • 7 day supply of medicines
  • garbage bags
  • clothes, shoes
  • bottled water (a gallon of water per person per day)
  • canned food
  • non-electric can opener, and
  • dried foods (easy to store and prepare)

Consider putting together 2 kits. One kit should contain the items you would need to stay where you are and make it on your own. The other kit would be a smaller version of that kit that you can take with you if you have to evacuate.
