and children with serious psychiatric disabilities.
These are just some of the ways that the governor is trying
to rein in state Medicaid spending in the face of the budget deficit. And,
while the state is trying to curb Medicaid spending, it is also trying to
respond to lobbying by county executives who are asking the state to take over
their 25% share of the tab for local Medicaid recipients, a burden that is
quickly driving county property taxes through the roof.
The April 1st deadline to adopt a state budget has not been
met since 1984. It is anticipated that this year legislative leaders will
accelerate the pace at which they iron out their differences, since all 212
seats of the state legislature are up for re-election in November. We urge you
to contact your state representative NOW and make them earn your vote.
