Since 1981 WILC has provided information, services, advocacy, technical assistance, and trainings in Westchester County and the lower Hudson Valley Region. WILC’s main office is located in White Plains, New York – Westchester County’s county seat and the center of the largest population base in the region. WILC’s satellite office, Putnam Independent Living Services (PILS), is located in Brewster, NY.
WILC has four specialized regional programs that have as their catchment area seven counties of the Lower Hudson Valley Region – Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Orange, Sullivan, Dutchess, and Ulster.
TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY (TBI) REGIONAL RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT CENTER (RRDC)
Since 1995, WILC has been the lower Hudson Valley Region RRDC for the NYS Department of Health’s Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Program. This Medicaid waiver program is a cost-effective, community-based alternative to nursing facility placement.
NURSING HOME TRANSITION AND DIVERSION (NHTD) REGIONAL RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT CENTER (RRDC)
Since 2007, WILC has been the lower Hudson Valley Region RRDC for the NYS Department of Health’s Nursing Home Transition and Diversion (NHTD) Waiver Program. This waiver program assesses, plans, and supports the transition of nursing home residents, who are eager to and capable of returning to community living, back to integrated community living settings of their own choosing. It also assists in the diversion of persons at risk of being placed in a skilled nursing facility.
PARENT TRAINING AND INFORMATION CENTER (PTIC)
Since 2002, WILC has been The Advocacy Center’s Parent Training and Information Center (PTIC) for the lower Hudson Valley Region. PTIC program offers workshops and ongoing support for parents of children with disabilities to help them gain the knowledge and skills they need to be advocates for their children. Separate trainings and workshops are offered for professionals who work with children with disabilities and their families
OPEN DOORS TRANSITION CENTER PROGRAM
WILC is the regional lead agency for this program and our goal is to assist people living in nursing homes and OPWDD (Office for People With Developmental Disabilities) intermediate care facilities in the lower Hudson Valley Region to transition to and/or remain in the community. We work with auxiliary outreach agencies based at local independent living centers. The lower Hudson Valley Region includes Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Orange, Sullivan, Dutchess, and Ulster Counties.
